Kodachadri Hills are covered with dense forests in the Western Ghats and form the background to the Sri Kollur Mookambika Temple. The words Kodacha or Kodashi mean hill that have been combined with a Sanskrit word, 'Adri' to call the mountain as Kodachadri. The Kodachadri mountain peak is located in the centre of the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary and is approximately 1343 m above the main sea level.
This mountain peak, which is bordered by dense evergreen forests on all sides, is suitable for watching sunrise and sunset. It is also an ideal place for trekking as it has a 12 km long trail leading to Nittur.
